UNIFIL's Final Tribute to Fallen Peacekeeper Private Rico in Lebanon
UNIFIL held a tribute ceremony for Private Rico Pramudia (31), a peacekeeper who died after being struck by a projectile explosion. The Head of Mission and Force Commander of UNIFIL, Major General Diodato Abagnara, recalled Private Rico’s service as a peacekeeper.
The tribute ceremony took place at Beirut Airport in Lebanon. Major General Abagnara expressed his respect for Rico and committed to completing the peacekeeping mission.
“You came here, far from home, to serve under the United Nations flag, to bring peace to this land, and here, in southern Lebanon, you gave everything,” said Major General Abagnara in his statement on the UNIFIL website on Monday (27/4/2026).
“You gave everything you had for peace in this country. And for that, you have all our respect,” he continued.
He added that the TNI troops are ready to continue their commitment to the peacekeeping mission. He urged the TNI peacekeepers to stay united and vigilant.
“As soldiers, as peacekeepers, we will carry on your mission; we will remain steadfast; we will remain united; we will remain vigilant,” he stated.
“This is how we honour you. Your place remains with us, in our actions, in our commitment, in our sense of responsibility,” he added.
Private Rico leaves behind a wife and a young son. He arrived in April last year to serve with UNIFIL, on his first overseas mission.
The tribute ceremony was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon, Dicky Komar, representatives from the Lebanese Ministry of National Defence and the Lebanese Army, Brigadier General Maroun Azzi, and Colonel Allan Surya Lesmana from the Indonesian UNIFIL contingent.
UNIFIL considers attacks on peacekeeping forces a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and they may be regarded as war crimes. UNIFIL has called for the attack to be investigated immediately, with those responsible prosecuted and held accountable.
It is known that Private Rico is the fourth Indonesian peacekeeper to die in service for peace in southern Lebanon within less than a month.
Previously, Rico was treated at St. George Hospital in Beirut after sustaining severe injuries from an attack in southern Lebanon on Sunday night (29/3) near Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon.
“UNIFIL regrets the death today of Corporal Rico Pramudia, who was seriously injured by a projectile explosion at the base where he was stationed in Adchit Al Qusayr on the night of 29 March,” stated UNIFIL on Friday (24/4/2026).
On that Sunday night (29/3), the attack, suspected to be from the Israeli military, also resulted in one TNI soldier killed and two others injured. The TNI soldiers were part of Company C UNP 7-1 Task Force Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL.
The following day, on Monday (30/3), the UN confirmed two more TNI soldiers died after an explosion hit a UNIFIL logistics convoy in Bani Hayyan, southern Lebanon.
