Unidentified Man Dies After Being Struck by Freight Train in Ngampel, Kendal

A man with no identification was found dead after being struck by a freight train on the railway line at KM 23+900, west of the Perlintasan 37 level crossing, Sudipayung Village, Ngampel District, Kendal Regency, on Sunday (17/5/2026).

The tragic incident occurred around 12:45 PM. At that time, a freight train was travelling at high speed from Semarang towards Jakarta. The impact caused the victim to die instantly at the scene.

Bhabinkamtibmas of Sudipayung Village, Moh Saleh, stated that based on initial information, the victim is believed to have been walking alone in the railway area before the train passed.

“The victim appears to have been walking alone near the tracks. The train was coming from Semarang towards Jakarta,” said Saleh while giving a statement at the scene.

As of this report, the identity of the man remains unknown. Police officers and medical personnel who conducted an examination at the crime scene did not find any identification cards or other supporting documents on the victim’s body.

When found, the victim was wearing a sarong and no shirt. The police are urging anyone who recognizes the description of the missing person to report it immediately.

The police have carried out a crime scene investigation to collect evidence related to the incident. After the initial examination, the victim’s body was immediately evacuated using an ambulance to RSUD dr Soewondo Kendal for further examination and medical identification.

The police are continuing their in-depth investigation to uncover the exact cause of why the victim was on the railway line, which is prohibited for pedestrians, and will also try to contact family members if the identity is revealed.

The public is urged to always be vigilant and not engage in activities along the railway tracks as it poses a serious risk to life. (JI/I-1)
