UNICEF to promote birth certificate

JAKARTA: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will hold a nationwide campaign on the importance of having birth certificates for Indonesian children.

"We'll campaign in various mass media including print media, TV and radio in 27 major cities in Indonesia," said M. Jaedi, a consultant for UNICEF, on Saturday.

He said that the campaign was crucial amid poor awareness among Indonesian parents to obtain birth certificate for their children. Four out of five Indonesian children do not have birth certificates, placing Indonesia among 19 countries in the world with poor registration systems. -- Antara
