'Unicef drugs sold in Indramayu'
INDRAMAYU, West Java: The Indramayu regency legislative council called on the local development supervisory board to investigate alleged trading in drugs gained as health assistance from UNICEF.
Syarif Taslam, a member of the regency legislature, said here on Friday, that he has frequently received complaints from tuberculosis patients who had been asked to pay for drugs distributed by UNICEF to the regency.
"The drugs should be given to tuberculosis sufferers free of charge because they are UNICEF's assistance to Indonesia and health workers in public health centers are not allowed to sell them," he said.
Waryadi, a law practitioner, called on the government prosecutor's office to investigate health workers in public health centers and government hospitals who were found trading UNICEF's drugs.
"Such deeds are inhumane and are crimes that must be investigated," he said. --Antara
