UNHCR seeks help from TNI
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is seeking the help of the
Indonesian Military (TNI) to contact the guardians of East
Timorese Indonesian children in East Nusa Tenggara who have been
separated from their parents.
"The UNHCR has written us a letter, complete with the names of
11 East Timorese Indonesian children who have been separated from
their parents in the wake of the violence in East Timor in 1999.
They have asked for our help to find their guardians in East Nusa
Tenggara," Commander of Wirasakti Military Resort Col. Moeswarno
Moesanip, said here Thursday.
The UNHCR made the request after it received the power of
attorney from their parents who now live in the capital of newly
independent East Timor, Dili, he said.
He said the local security authorities had no objections to
the UNHCR's request. --Antara
