Unhas SAR Marks 40 Years of Humanitarian Service

The Search and Rescue (SAR) Student Activity Unit of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has served humanity for 40 years, with the support of more than 500 people who are members of the Unhas SAR team. “The spirit of service and humanity, the commemoration of four decades of Unhas SAR’s journey is a moment of reflection as well as strengthening the commitment to continue being present for the community,” said Vice Rector I of Hasanuddin University, Prof drg Muhammad Ruslin, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.BM(K), in Makassar on Monday. He said Unhas SAR has been active in various social and humanitarian activities. The existence of Unhas SAR has made a real contribution not only to the campus environment, but also to the wider community. He emphasised that the university leadership will continue to support Unhas SAR so it can move more broadly in carrying out its humanitarian mission and community service. “For 40 years, Unhas SAR has shown extraordinary dedication in various humanitarian actions. The university will continue to seek support so that this organisation remains at the forefront of social activities and disaster management,” he said. At the 40th anniversary celebration, Unhas SAR gave awards to a number of individuals and parties deemed to have contributed greatly to the organisation’s development. Awards were given, among others, to Soetrisno, Vivie Firman Gani, the family of Yusuf Manggabarani, and various other figures who have provided support for the existence of Unhas SAR. In the series of events, the symbolic launch and handover of the Rumah Jingga Tamalanrea Book was also carried out as part of documenting the organisation’s journey and service to the community. Currently, Unhas SAR has around 500 active members and alumni spread across various regions. The 40th anniversary celebration also served as a gathering and reunion event across generations who have helped build the organisation’s reputation.
