Makassar (ANTARA) - Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin Prof Jamaluddin Jompa (JJ) stated that integrity must become the “DNA” or something inherent, invisible but felt in every decision and action at every level of Unhas’s work units.

Prof JJ in Makassar on Monday said that for Unhas, the Integrity Zone (ZI) is not merely a procedure and documents or an assessment indicator, but a source of spirit in working, which lives in the daily practices of the academic community.

He conveyed that this perspective is important amid the tendency of some institutions to still view ZI as merely an administrative obligation.

“In this context, the role of leaders is crucial. Integrity cannot only be regulated, but must be exemplified. We expect that leaders can become role models to build trust and consistency at the unit level,” he explained during the Integrity Zone socialisation event within the scope of Unhas.

Therefore, the approach taken is not only the enforcement of rules, but also the improvement of systems and mindsets.

Various steps have been taken by Unhas, from the preparation of more detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) to the strengthening of reporting mechanisms.

This system is designed to ensure that every process runs fairly and transparently, while providing space for improvement. Prof JJ emphasised that Unhas views integrity as a strategic asset to maintain public trust.

“We also open space for the participation of the academic community in maintaining integrity. The reporting mechanism is not only seen as a control tool, but as part of a culture of mutual reminding,” added Prof JJ.
