Unhas Rector: Cyber Threats Require Multidisciplinary Response
Makassar - The Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Prof Dr Jamaluddin Jompa (JJ), stated that the increasingly complex cyber threats require a multidisciplinary response, not only from a legal perspective but also from technological, social, and public policy aspects.
“To that end, strong collaboration is needed between universities and police institutions as a form of shared responsibility in delivering science-based solutions,” said Prof Jamaluddin Jompa (JJ) in Makassar on Friday.
According to him, the structure of the Police Studies Centre at Unhas, which involves cross-disciplinary academics and police practitioners, demonstrates efforts to build a transdisciplinary collaboration model.
The presence of divisions such as research and publications, advocacy, and community service strengthens the centre’s function as a bridge between knowledge production and policy implementation.
“Today’s crime phenomena are developing very rapidly, especially in the digital space. Therefore, a research-based approach and cross-disciplinary collaboration are an urgent need,” he said during preparations for the launch of the Police Studies Centre at the Faculty of Law of Unhas.
The training programme is designed to enhance the competencies of police personnel in professional ethics, public communication, and conflict management—three areas that social science studies have proven to influence the quality of public services and public trust.
On the other hand, joint research between academics and police practitioners forms the core of the evidence-based policing approach.
Through this collaboration, empirical data is expected to be processed into more precise policy recommendations in addressing issues such as cybercrime, social dynamics, and community-based security.
