Unhas MBG Kitchen Strengthens Integration of Research and Nutrition Services
Makassar (ANTARA) - Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) is committed to preparing a Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) positioned not merely as a production unit but as a nexus for integrating research, expertise, and implementation. Unhas Rector Prof Dr Jamaluddin Jompa stated in Makassar on Thursday that the university is striving to ensure all processes, from raw materials sourced from Unhas’s flagship products to product distribution, involve internal campus resources. The development of Unhas’s SPPG through the Yayasan Metavisi Akademika Nusantara (MAN) is directed towards supporting MBG implementation by preparing a nutritious food production kitchen that will supply schools. “We are pushing for the SPPG so that all its processes are based on Unhas’s internal strengths, including the involvement of nutrition experts,” he said. The Unhas MBG Kitchen is being prepared at a location next to the Unhas Campus Mosque. Previously, Unhas had prepared a building from the former canteen in the Unhas Student Dormitory area. However, due to several technical considerations, the location has been moved to a new area. The existence of the SPPG forms part of the upstream-to-downstream approach developed by Unhas. The university not only plays a role in generating knowledge through research but also ensures that research outcomes are implemented in the form of products and services with direct impact. “This is part of Unhas’s contribution to supporting government programmes, while ensuring that the knowledge we possess truly serves the community. We want to move from upstream to downstream, from campus to societal progress,” Prof JJ continued. Beyond functioning as a product provider, the SPPG is expected to serve as a living laboratory connecting educational activities, research, and community service. Students, lecturers, and expert staff can be directly involved in the production and development processes, thereby creating an applicable and contextual learning ecosystem. “We want to make this SPPG research-based, data-driven, and innovative. In this way, its impact can be sustainable and truly felt by the community,” explained Prof JJ.
