Unhas confident of retaining overall title at Pimnas 2026

In addition to focusing on research and innovation, Unhas has also achieved national recognition in the Student Entrepreneurship Development Program (P2MW). Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) Rector Professor Dr Jamaluddin Jompa (JJ) is optimistic about securing an unprecedented third consecutive overall title at the 39th National Student Science Week (Pimnas) in 2026. Speaking in Makassar on Tuesday, Prof JJ praised the achievements of students and faculty mentors who have consistently upheld Unhas’ national standing. ‘Although currently second in the Student Creativity Program (PKM) funding allocation, the chance to reclaim the overall title remains high. The number of teams does not always reflect quality,’ he said. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Unhas ranks second with 50 PKM funding proposals, just behind Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) with 56. He explained that a strong academic culture must be maintained through perseverance, innovation, and consistent student mentoring. He stressed that Unhas’ participation in Pimnas is not just about representing the university, but also contributing to Indonesia. In addition to research and innovation, Unhas has also achieved national recognition in the Student Entrepreneurship Development Program (P2MW). This year, Unhas secured first place nationally. Out of 104 teams in the internal selection, 18 submitted proposals to the national level, with six receiving funding. Prof JJ noted the achievements demonstrate growing student entrepreneurship spirit. However, he emphasised the program’s primary goal is not merely securing funding, but fostering young entrepreneurs capable of building sustainable businesses. The 39th Pimnas is scheduled to take place at Diponegoro University in Semarang, Central Java, from 2-7 November 2026. Unhas dominated the event in both 2024 and 2025.
