Unhas Breaks into World's Top 201–300 in THE Impact Rankings 2026
Makassar (ANTARA) - Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has successfully broken into the 201–300 world ranking bracket, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026 announced at the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2026 at ICE BSD City, Jakarta, on Tuesday. This achievement marks a significant leap, rising two clusters from the 401–600 position in 2025. Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Jamaluddin Jompa explained in Makassar on Wednesday that this year’s jump demonstrates the university’s capacity to compete at a global level. Various policies have been adopted and implemented to ensure Unhas becomes a campus that meets environmentally friendly operational standards and safeguards the sustainability of development. ‘In recent years, Unhas governance has been based on the principle of Good University Governance, where the implementation of the Tridharma (three pillars of higher education) must address the demands of achieving Unhas’s vision and mission, whilst ensuring that today’s academic life is a legacy entrusted by future generations,’ he stated. Nationally, Unhas rose one rank to secure a position in the national top 10. This result reflects the acceleration of Unhas’s performance in strengthening its global reputation alongside the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The THE Impact Rankings is a global ranking that assesses universities’ contributions to achieving the SDGs. The assessment is conducted through various indicators covering institutional governance, education, research, community service, partnerships, and the tangible impact generated in supporting the sustainable development agenda. In its methodology, each university must be assessed on at least four SDGs. Unhas participated in SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Unhas’s achievements in each SDG saw SDG 1 (No Poverty) rise from the 201–300 group in 2025 to 58th in the world in 2026. Meanwhile, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) improved from the 401–600 group to the 101–200 group globally, SDG 14 (Life Below Water) climbed from 52nd to 31st in the world, and SDG 15 (Life on Land) rose from the 201–300 group to 87th globally.
