Makassar (ANTARA) - Hasanuddin University (Unhas) and PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) are strengthening their collaboration to support digital learning and ensure students are prepared to enter the workforce.

Speaking in Makassar on Tuesday, the Director of Student Affairs at Unhas, Prof. Dr Suhasman, stated that the collaboration encompasses connectivity support through special data packages for accessing campus learning applications, as well as a virtual internship programme known as VirtuShip.

This programme provides Unhas students with the opportunity to gain work experience at Telkomsel online. According to him, Telkomsel is a primary career destination for many university graduates; therefore, this collaboration provides students with access to understanding the professional world and developments within the digital industry.

“The trend of remote work is currently expanding and will continue to grow, particularly led by digital companies. Therefore, we need to adapt and learn from it,” he said.

S. Handoyo Hadi, General Manager of Health Care and Education Account Management at Telkomsel, stated that this cooperation is part of an effort to build a digital education ecosystem. Telkomsel’s support focuses not only on connectivity but also on learning and student competency development, including plans to develop AI-based learning content as well as health and mental health consultation services.

“We are committed to providing maximum service, ensuring connectivity, and assisting the teaching and learning process. Moving forward, we are also developing AI learning content. AI is no longer optional; it has become mandatory,” explained Handoyo.

Through VirtuShip, students receive internship materials verified by experts, experience working on real-use cases and Telkomsel projects, and access to a talent pool. The programme can also be converted into Competency Enhancement Courses (MKPK) with a weight of more than three credits, in accordance with regulations.

“Through this virtual internship, we want to ensure that Unhas students have an equal opportunity to gain internship experience at Telkomsel online,” he said during a Career Talk event.

Telkomsel’s Vice President of People Development and Management, Dudun Abdul Falah Sidiq, emphasised that the development of AI is changing professional requirements and driving the emergence of increasingly specific roles, such as AI engineers and AI platform specialists.
