Unhas and Perminas Forge Partnership to Strengthen Mineral Industry

Makassar (ANTARA) - Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has entered into a partnership with PT Perusahaan Mineral Nasional (Perminas) Persero to strengthen the downstreaming of research and technology development in the mineral sector. Unhas Rector Prof Dr Jamaluddin Jompa stated that this collaboration represents a strategic step in fostering synergy between higher education and industry, particularly in supporting the advancement of science, technology, innovation, and human resource capacity in the national mineral sector, especially strategic minerals. “Unhas is committed to delivering research-based solutions for various development challenges,” he said following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in Makassar. “This partnership with Perminas is expected to open broader collaborative opportunities in research, technology development, human resource capacity building, and the implementation of programmes that provide tangible benefits to society and the strategic mineral industry,” he continued. Meanwhile, Perminas President Director Gilarsi W. Setijono expressed appreciation for the collaboration with Unhas, a leading Indonesian university with strong academic capacity and research resources. “We believe that synergy between industry and academia is a key factor in driving innovation, technological development, and enhancing the competencies needed to address the challenges of the mineral industry in the future,” Gilarsi stated. The collaboration is expected to produce various programmes that not only support industry needs but also contribute to the sustainable, value-added and globally competitive management of mineral resources. Unhas and Perminas agreed to explore various forms of cooperation covering education, research, community service, innovation and technology development, human resource capacity building, and other strategic programmes supporting the national development agenda. Perminas is a newly established state-owned enterprise, founded in November 2025. The company operates in the mining and mineral processing sector, focusing on the management of strategic minerals such as gold, nickel, copper, and specifically rare earth minerals.
