Makassar (ANTARA) – Hasanuddin University (Unhas) and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) are exploring a strategic partnership to strengthen research on global issues and the Indo‑Pacific region.

Rector of Unhas, Jamaluddin Jompa (JJ), in Makassar on Wednesday, said the exploration ranges from strengthening strategic studies, academic diplomacy, and human resource development, to the university’s contribution to global issues.

He explained that Unhas continues to push for transforming the university, not only excelling in education and research, but also actively building global networks with various strategic partners.

In this context, he said, CSIS is considered to have the experience and capacity relevant to supporting the strengthening of Unhas’ academic role at national and international levels.

“We are very proud and happy to make CSIS a strategic partner,” he said when receiving the CSIS Jakarta Senior Fellow who also serves as Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ireland and the International Maritime Organization (2016–2020), Dr Rizal Sukma, together with a delegation in Makassar.

“This relationship can of course be reinforced through a range of concrete collaborations, especially in developing strategic studies, academic diplomacy, and the university’s contribution to global issues,” he said.

He added that Unhas possesses a variety of potentials that can be offered in the partnership, ranging from multidisciplinary research capacity, development of superior human resources, to the region-wide collaboration networks that the university has been building.

He stated that strengthening synergies with strategic institutions like CSIS will add value to the institution’s development as well as Indonesia’s contribution in the global arena.

The collaboration between Unhas and CSIS has previously been realized through a series of academic activities, including a national seminar titled “Steering Indonesia’s Foreign Policy in the Face of Rivalry Among Major Powers.”
