Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Dean of the Defence Management Faculty (FMP) at the Indonesian Defence University (Unhan), Major General TNI Priyanto, stated that culture is one of the elements of national resilience, and therefore its purity must always be maintained. Priyanto, during a Domestic Field Study visit by FMP Unhan to the Office of the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) on Tuesday, said DIY was chosen as the destination because, in his view, it is one of the regions that still purely preserves its local culture. According to him, the activity, themed Strengthening National Resilience through Synergy in Managing Regional Economic and Defence Resources in DIY, is relevant to Indonesia’s geopolitical and geostrategic conditions, both globally and regionally. Through this activity, FMP Unhan RI students can learn more and absorb knowledge related to resource management carried out by DIY to strengthen national resilience. ‘In addition, they can see first-hand how defence aspects are used as a basis for developing tourism, the economy, regional resources, mineral and energy development, as well as capital to always be ready to face threats,’ he said. DIY Regional Secretary Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti said DIY’s development is based on the quality of human resources, strengthening the people’s economy, preserving culture, adaptive governance, and sustainable development. ‘Therefore, the region is also a strategic node in the national resilience system,’ she said. She stated that DIY’s special status is a strategic asset in development. ‘The special status is not merely an administrative privilege, but a constitutional instrument to maintain the continuity of values, culture, and governance rooted in history while remaining relevant to future challenges,’ she said. She explained that the special authority in the fields of culture, institutions, land affairs, and spatial planning provides space for DIY to develop with an approach that is not solely oriented towards economic growth. Meanwhile, in the context of national resilience, she continued, culture becomes an energy that maintains national unity when facing increasingly complex global changes. ‘It is here that the strategic value of the special status exists as social capital that strengthens community cohesion, reinforces national identity, and expands regional competitiveness,’ she said.
