UNG Student Reports Department Head to Ombudsman After Being Barred from Thesis Examination
A student at Gorontalo State University (UNG), Syarifah Aslamiyah (25), has reported the Head of the Communication Science Department, Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS), Citra FIL Dano Putri, to the Ombudsman. Syarifah filed the report over alleged maladministration after she was barred from taking her thesis examination.
"Yes, I reported this complaint to the Gorontalo Ombudsman because I was prohibited from taking the thesis examination. I am at risk of losing the opportunity to complete my studies," Syarifah said on Sunday (19/7/2026).
The fourteenth-semester student officially lodged the report on Tuesday (14/7). She believes the department chair’s policy cost her the final chance to finish her degree.
"I feel there is something irregular and my rights as a student have not been fairly granted. I have suffered material and non-material losses because it does not align with the process I have undergone," she stated.
Head of the Communication Science Department, Citra, denied the allegation of prohibiting the thesis examination. She asserted that the department had acted in accordance with university procedures.
"The failure to achieve graduate status by the student concerned is purely a result of neglecting the academic process and non-compliance with collectively established deadlines," she said.
Citra stated that Syarifah had never conducted thesis result consultations with either her first or second supervisor. On that basis, the student was deemed ineligible to sit the thesis examination.
"There were zero supervision sessions. Miss Syarifah Aslamiyah never conducted research result consultations, neither with Supervisor 1 nor Supervisor II," she noted.
