JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Housing and Settlement (PKP) will commence the renovation of unfit housing (RTLH) through the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Program (BSPS) in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, starting 1 June 2026. PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait stated that the house renovations are targeted for completion by 25 August 2026. ‘After inspecting, the houses are indeed in very poor condition and qualify for BSPS assistance,’ Maruarar said while visiting potential BSPS beneficiaries in RT 2 RW 1, Poasia Village, Abeli District, on Friday, 29 May 2026. One of the inspected houses belongs to Ibrahim, who lives with his wife, Nanang. The wooden structure they occupy has been deemed unfit for habitation and requires renovation under the BSPS programme. She said her husband has been unemployed for four years due to diabetes. To support the family, she sells sachet drinks to children and local residents. Maruarar said Kendari City Government has arranged apartment blocks as temporary accommodation for beneficiaries during construction. BSPS allocations in Southeast Sulawesi have increased from 1,129 housing units in 2025 to 8,973 in 2026. Meanwhile, the PKP’s 2026 budget allocation is Rp10.3 trillion after a reduction of Rp586 billion. Maruarar stated that the PKP’s strategic programme for 2026 remains focused on BSPS. He added that the budget will support the construction and renovation of 400,000 housing units in coastal, urban, and rural areas as a government priority. ‘That is 83.12% of our budget allocated for BSPS. Of the total, 83% is used for this,’ Maruarar said recently.
