A suspension bridge still under construction collapsed in Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency. The suspension bridge was being built to provide temporary access for pedestrians whilst the main bridge is being repaired. “The bridge that collapsed is a pedestrian bridge that was newly built and had not yet been used. Construction was not finished,” said Andi Sumardi, Head of Logistics at the Bogor Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), when contacted on Monday (22/6/2026). Andi stated that the embankment at the suspension bridge collapsed, likely due to heavy rain and erosion from the river current below on Sunday (21/6) evening. There were no casualties in the incident. “(The cause of the collapse) was due to heavy rain last night, causing a landslide. Yes, it was also eroded by the river. The suspension bridge is a project under the Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) agency, and the technical aspects are already being handled by PUPR. There has been no report and no request for assistance from PUPR either,” Andi said. For context, the main bridge connecting the Gunung Putri and Klapanunggal areas, commonly known as the Wika Bridge, is currently undergoing repairs. The process is estimated to take up to six months. During the repair period, the Bogor Regency PUPR Agency is building a temporary bridge for pedestrian crossing. Meanwhile, motorists must take a detour via the Nambo Highway access. “So, the main bridge is indeed under repair, it has been almost six months. Therefore, the suspension bridge was built temporarily for pedestrians, just a temporary bridge for people to cross, because the main bridge is being repaired,” Andi said.
