Unexpected UN Response After Direct Inspection of IKN Conditions
The Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN) has received positive attention from a United Nations body after representatives from the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) directly observed the development of the Core Government Centre Area (KIPP) in Nusantara.
The visit on 13 April 2026 was led by Security Adviser and Representative of UNDSS to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Allan Mendoza, who was personally welcomed by the Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, along with his team.
During the visit, UNDSS expressed admiration for the progress of IKN’s development. The UN body even opened the possibility for more international representatives to visit Nusantara directly.
“We are interested in the various developments taking place in the Nusantara Capital. One of the backgrounds for our visit is to follow up on the survey conducted by the diplomatic community last year,” said Allan.
He assessed that the IKN Authority is very open to the international community, including the UN.
“And it turns out that the IKN Authority is very open to the UN for this; we will convey that news. Hopefully, our other representatives can also visit here in the future,” he continued.
For information, UNDSS is part of the UN Secretariat tasked with coordinating safety and security aspects for all UN entities in various countries.
On the other hand, Basuki explained that IKN’s development has now entered the stage of strengthening the core government area. The government is also beginning to prepare for the development of judicial and legislative zones as part of long-term development up to 2045.
“I conveyed the development plan for the Nusantara Capital, consisting of five stages from 2022 to 2045. Currently, we are preparing to complete all developments in the core government office sector,” said Basuki.
“In the coming years, we will focus on developing the judicial and legislative zones, which we have already started now,” he added.
This UNDSS visit is seen as an initial signal of increasing attention from the international community towards IKN. In addition to strengthening dialogue with the UN, this step also opens up broader global collaboration opportunities for Nusantara in the future.
