Unexpected Confession from Robber Who Killed JICT Pensioner
Jakarta – Police have disclosed the reason why Sudirman alias Yuda (28) attacked a retired employee of Jakarta International Container Terminal, Ermanto Usman (65), and his wife Pasmilawati (60).
According to his confession, the assault occurred because his robbery attempt was discovered. The victim’s wife woke up when the dawn prayer alarm sounded, at which point the perpetrator panicked upon being discovered.
“So why did the suspect attack the victim? Based on the account provided by the suspect to investigators, the suspect was startled. At the time the suspect was committing theft in the victim’s home, the victim woke up upon hearing an alarm for dawn prayer,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, Senior Commissioner of Police Iman Imanuddin, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Armed with scissors and a crowbar, the perpetrator entered the victim’s home by breaking through a window. The theft took place while most of the household’s occupants were asleep.
Police confirmed that the tragic incident began as a theft that escalated into murder at the victim’s residence.
The perpetrator, identified as Sudirman alias Yuda (28), has since been arrested by investigators from the General Criminal Investigation Directorate at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters. Police emphasised that the perpetrator had no specific target during the commission of the crime.
“We clarify that, based on investigation results supported by evidence and witness testimony throughout the investigation process, the perpetrator had no specific target,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, Senior Commissioner of Police Iman Imanuddin during a press conference on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
In a state of panic, the perpetrator immediately struck Pasmilawati with the crowbar, rendering her helpless. He then saw Ermanto, who had just woken up and was sitting on the bed in shock.
“Owing to panic, the suspect thereupon attacked the male victim who had just awakened and was sitting on the bed,” he said.
After incapacitating both victims, the perpetrator fled the house whilst carrying several valuable items. The stolen goods included two mobile phones, a laptop, and jewellery belonging to the victims.
Some of the stolen items were subsequently sold by the perpetrator. Meanwhile, one of the victim’s mobile phones was used by the suspect.
