Unexpected Complaints from Ojol Drivers a Month After Commission Rises to 92%

It has been a month since two-wheeled online motorcycle taxi (ojol) services reduced the application commission to 8%, meaning partner drivers now receive 92% of earnings. Despite this, many drivers claim they have not felt any difference in income compared to the period when the revenue split was 20%-80%.

A number of drivers said they still pocket daily earnings in the range of Rp100,000 to Rp200,000. They also still need to complete 10 to 15 trips with working hours reaching 8 to 12 hours a day. One driver even admitted his income had slumped by as much as Rp50,000. “It’s different (the income), it can drop by up to Rp50,000,” a driver told CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (3/8/2026).

A female driver stated her net income is around Rp200,000 per day. According to her, there is no significant difference from the previous revenue-sharing policy. With that income, she said she can still cover the cost of renting a boarding room and daily operational expenses such as fuel and food.

Another driver who supports three children shared a similar story. He explained he must collect at least Rp2 million to Rp3 million per month to meet household operational needs and school fees for two of his children.

These drivers say they are resigned and must continue with the job. Some are confused as to why their income has not increased, but instead has stagnated or even declined. “Well, supposedly with the 8% cut, income should go up, but instead it’s gone down. I’m confused,” said one driver. “Initially, with the 8% cut, I thought it was pretty good based on rough calculations. Apparently, there are other calculations,” said another driver.

The only difference they currently feel is no longer being charged a subscription fee when taking budget service orders. Previously, drivers had to pay a certain amount depending on the number of budget trips taken—for example, paying Rp20,000 for 10 budget service trips. Now, the income received is purely without additional fee deductions when completing budget service orders. “In the past, budget services had a fee, now there’s no more payment,” concluded an ojol driver met in the South Jakarta area.
