Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Rector of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), Prof Nurhasan, believes that the plan to close study programmes (prodi) by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) requires in-depth study because each programme has different conditions.

“A study is needed, because some programmes are already linked with industry, while others are not. So, further study is still required to discuss this discourse,” he said in Surabaya on Wednesday.

Nurhasan explained that some programmes are connected to industry needs, while others are not fully relevant to the current developments in the job market.

He added that the evaluation of programmes within Unesa is continuously conducted periodically through a special unit handling the opening or closure of programmes based on needs and relevance.

In addition, Unesa is also adjusting the curriculum to technological developments, including incorporating issues of artificial intelligence (AI) into various study programmes.

According to him, these steps are taken so that graduates are prepared to face the increasingly dynamic changes in the job market.
