Unemployment in C. Java higher

SEMARANG: Mayor H. Soetrisno Suharto reported yesterday that
the number of people unemployed in the provincial capital has
reached more than 160,000.

The mayor said in a meeting here with local business
representatives that 70 percent of the unemployed are high school
and university graduates, most of whom are seeking employment in
the private sector.

The rest, Soetrisno told Antara, are expected to apply for
government jobs.

"If these people remain jobless they will become a social
problem," he said. (16)
