Penajam Paser Utara - The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) has expressed interest in the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in parts of Penajam Paser Utara Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, opening opportunities for cooperation with the international community.

“UNDSS is interested in the development of IKN and future cooperation opportunities,” said Security Adviser and Representative of UNDSS to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Allan Mendoza, when providing an explanation during a visit to IKN in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, on Wednesday.

UNDSS is interested in various developments occurring in IKN and will follow up on the survey conducted by the diplomatic community in Indonesia’s new capital last year.

“IKN authorities are very open and are expected to open opportunities for collaboration with the international community,” said Allan Mendoza.

UNDSS is part of the United Nations Secretariat tasked with coordinating safety and security aspects for all UN entities globally.

The visit serves as an initial momentum to open dialogue between IKN authorities and the UN, while strengthening the position of Indonesia’s new capital as an area open to global collaboration in the future.

In the future, he said, development will focus on the judicial and legislative zones as part of the long-term construction phases.

Basuki stated that IKN development consists of five stages from 2022 to 2045, and is currently preparing to complete all core government office developments, followed by a focus next year on the judicial and legislative zones, which have already begun.
