UNDP assists election monitoring
SEMARANG: The Rectors' Forum announced on Friday that it had received financial assistance of US$23 million from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to help the forum monitor the 2004 elections.
Eko Budihardjo, University of Diponegoro rector, who is also a member of the Rectors' Forum, said the performance of the Rectors' Forum in monitoring the 1999 election was considered good.
The $23 million would be distributed to some 450 state and private universities across the country to help them participate in monitoring next year's election, he added.
University students would serve as volunteer election monitors, Eko said. - Antara
