Undisbursed Loans Still at Rp2,575 Trillion, BI Chief Confident Credit Can Grow 12%
Idle credit, known as undisbursed loans, remains quite substantial to date. Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that based on the latest data, undisbursed loans still amount to Rp2,575 trillion, equivalent to 22.41% of the banking sector’s credit ceiling. However, Perry assessed that the high level of undisbursed loans signals considerable potential for future credit growth in Indonesia, potentially reaching 12% year-on-year throughout this year. “Credit growth in 2026 is estimated at 8-12%, supported by the still large undisbursed loans of Rp2,575 trillion or 22.41% of the ceiling,” Perry emphasised during an online press conference on Thursday (18/6/2026). Perry noted that banking credit growth has begun to improve thus far. As of May 2026, it grew by 11.51% year-on-year, higher than the April 2026 figure of 9.98%. “Based on category, it was supported by investment, working capital, and consumption growing at 21.95%, 8.09%, and 5.89% respectively,” Perry explained.
