Undip student, victim of mob assault, had previously been reported for harassing three female students

Arnendo (20), a student at Diponegoro University (Undip), who was among the victims of a mob assault, had previously been reported to the campus authorities over allegations of harassment. He was reported by three female students before the assault occurred.

According to detikJateng, on Thursday 5 March 2026, Nurul Hasfi, Director of the Directorate for Media Networking, Community and Public Communication at Undip, said that Arnendo had been reported by three female students to the Dean’s Office.

‘Yes, we received a report from the Dean’s Office that the person in question allegedly sexually harassed three female students,’ Nurul said.

In the report, Arnendo is said to have received several warnings but continued his behaviour. This situation is said to have sparked anger among many other students.

‘The report states that he had been warned repeatedly yet continued with his conduct. This is what triggered the anger of his peers,’ Nurul added.

He said Undip does not condone acts of violence and harassment. He lamented the violence.

He noted that the alleged sexual violence committed by Arnendo is currently being processed by the campus authorities. The university is committed to providing protection for the complainant.

‘The alleged acts of sexual violence involving the person in question are being seriously followed up through the applicable mechanisms and procedures, and the university will provide support and protection to the victim of sexual harassment,’ Nurul said.

Meanwhile, Arnendo’s lawyer, Zainal Abidin Petir, said the incident occurred on 15 November 2025. His client now suffers a broken nose, a concussion and left-eye nerve damage as a result of the assault.

‘Arnendo, a nasi goreng stall intern, was beaten by 30 Undip students from 23:00 to 04:15 WIB, resulting in a broken nose and concussion,’ Zainal told detikJateng on Wednesday 3 April.

Zainal said Arnendo was pressured into admitting the alleged harassment of a female student identified only as U. He stated that Arnendo explained that the disputed incident involved only pulling U’s hand to invite her to a warung (a street stall).
