Undip rector to protest against minister

SEMARANG, Central Java: Rector of Semarang-based Diponegoro
University (Undip) Eko Budihardjo is planning to lodge a protest
against Minister of National Education Ahmad Malik Fadjar for his
decision not to allow the university to open a doctorate program
in fishery and marine sciences.

"Viewed from its qualifications, Undip deserves to open a
doctorate program in fishery and marine sciences soon, but it has
not been allowed," Budihardjo said here Saturday.

He said he could not accept explanations from the director
general of higher education suggesting that the university
concentrate on improving its post-graduate program in fishery
resources management.

"I will lodge a protest to the national education minister who
refuses to license the university to open the doctorate program
on the pretext that the post-graduate program was established
only in 1999," he said. --Antara
