Undip gathers global experts to discuss environmental governance
The global conversation today revolves around environmental issues. This is our debt to future generations—to Gen Z and those yet to be born.
Semarang (ANTARA) - The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Diponegoro University (Undip) Semarang held the International Conference on Indonesian Social and Disciplinary Enquiries (ICISPE) 2026 at its campus on Friday, bringing together domestic and international academics to discuss environmental governance.
Undip Vice Rector Wijayanto stated that environmental governance is one of the critical issues facing global society today.
“The global conversation today is about environmental issues. This is our debt to future generations, the generation that is being born today, Gen Z, and also those who will be born in the future,” said Wijayanto.
He noted that the impacts of environmental degradation and climate change are being felt in various parts of the world, including the heatwaves currently affecting France.
“If we do not discuss the environment, we will fall behind the global conversation,” he added.
The Dean of FISIP Undip, Teguh Yuwono, stated that the conference featured several speakers from both domestic and foreign universities.
“In addition to domestic speakers, such as Prof. Darto (Sudharto P. Hadi), there are also speakers from several foreign universities,” said Teguh.
The international conference brought together academics and researchers from Indonesia and various other countries to discuss governance, energy policy, environmental protection, and climate change.
ICISPE 2026 adopted the theme “Bridging Governance and Ecology: Navigating Energy Policy, Environmental Protection, and Climate Governance,” highlighting the interconnectedness of government governance, energy policy, and environmental protection and governance.
Tegu stated that the conference is also part of FISIP Undip’s efforts to enhance its global academic reputation through Scopus-indexed scientific publications.
“The output of all these seminars is Scopus articles. We expect to produce around 100, which will contribute to Undip’s target of approximately 3,000 Scopus articles,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi, who served as a speaker, noted that the 11th iteration of ICISPE shows positive development.
“The theme this year is environmental governance. Therefore, environmental governance is being examined from various perspectives,” said the former Rector of Undip.
