Universitas Diponegoro, or Undip, has formed a team to probe the case of an assault experienced by Arnendo, a student majoring in Anthropology in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The 20-year-old youth sustained serious injuries allegedly after being beaten by 30 students who were his contemporaries and seniors.

The incident occurred off the campus and outside academic activities, the Director of the Directorate of Media Networking, Community, and Public Communication at Undip, Nurul Hasfi, said. Nevertheless, he added, Undip condemns all forms of violence and will accompany the case.

“Undip will study the incident comprehensively and proceed further in accordance with the applicable provisions,” he said, as quoted by Antara on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Nurul explained that the team will accompany the ongoing legal process at present. He promised the university will impose sanctions as severe as possible on those found to have acted. “Undip urges the legal process to be objective and transparent so as to yield the fairest possible decision for those involved,” he said.

The assault incident drew public attention after going viral on social media. In the circulating video, Arnendo, who appears battered and with serious injuries to his nose, is described as being beaten by campus friends.

The victim’s lawyer from LBH Penyambung Titipan Rakyat Jateng, Zainal Petir, said the assault against Arnendo actually occurred on 15 November 2025. The victim was beaten in one of his friend’s indekos (rental rooms) in the night around 10 p.m.

According to Zainal, the victim at the time was invited to come to the indekos by several people who had been there beforehand. There, he was accused and forced to admit that he had harassed his junior student with the initials U. Arnendo then denied and explained his version of events, supported by a witness who was one of his friends.

However, those people did not believe and cornered the victim in a debate for about an hour. The assault finally occurred and ended only at 04:15 WIB.

One day after the incident, the victim’s parents promptly reported the case to the Semarang City Police.

But, according to Zainal, four months had elapsed with no progress regarding the legal process of the reported case. Zainal urged Undip and Polrestabes Semarang to take decisive action promptly.

“The victim is in his fourth semester and is on leave due to trauma, and moreover the perpetrators are in the same major, Social Anthropology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Undip, and have not yet been arrested,” he said.
