Undiksha postpones rector election stages to align with PTN-BH governance
Singaraja, Bali (ANTARA) - Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) Singaraja, Bali, has announced a temporary postponement of the Rector Election stages for the 2027–2031 period. This is to adjust the mechanism to the new governance framework following the university’s transformation into a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH).
“The change in status to PTN-BH brings consequences for governance and various institutional aspects, including the rector election process. Therefore, adjustments to the stages are being made to ensure the entire process runs in accordance with the applicable regulations,” said Undiksha Rector I Wayan Lasmawan in a statement in Singaraja, Buleleng Regency, on Monday.
The postponement was established through the Ganesha University of Education Senate Decision Number 12/UN4.48.26/SENAT/2026 regarding the Adjustment of the Ganesha University of Education Rector Election Process for the 2027–2031 Period as a Follow-up to the Change of Status to a Legal Entity State University.
The Senate decision stipulates that all stages of the rector election will be adjusted and temporarily postponed until the mechanism is aligned with the statutes and internal provisions of Undiksha as a PTN-BH.
Previously, the Undiksha Rector Election Committee had opened registration for prospective rector candidates from 1 to 18 September 2026. The subsequent stages will resume once the mechanism has been adjusted and further decisions have been made in accordance with the governance of legal entity state universities.
The Government Regulation was handed to Undiksha Rector Prof. I Wayan Lasmawan in Jakarta on 1 September 2026. As a PTN-BH, Undiksha possesses a different governance structure compared to its previous status as a PTN-BLU (Public Service Agency), particularly regarding the mechanism for electing and appointing a rector.
In general, the appointment of a rector in a PTN-BH is carried out by the Board of Trustees (Majelis Wali Amanat - MWA) through a mechanism involving university organs in accordance with the statutes and internal provisions of each institution.
Lasmawan emphasised that the postponement does not mean the rector election process has ceased, but rather provides space for Undiksha to synchronise all stages with its new institutional status.
“Undiksha remains committed to maintaining the continuity of university governance and ensuring that the rector election process can be conducted in an orderly, transparent, accountable, and compliant manner,” he said.
Undiksha will subsequently provide updates on the progress of the 2027–2031 Rector Election stages once further regulations and decisions are finalised. The academic community and the public are encouraged to follow information updates through the official channels of Undiksha and the Rector Election Committee.
