Undiksha Academics Develop Counselling Application to Prevent Child Violence
Buleleng, Bali (ANTARA) - Academics from Undiksebha Singaraja, Bali, have developed the SI-Konseling Pro application, a web-based counselling information system that combines Electroencephalography (EEG) technology, artificial intelligence, and Balinese local wisdom to strengthen the prevention of violence against children within educational environments.
This innovation was developed through the Strategic Research Downstreaming Programme - Product Testing Scheme 2026, funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek).
The development team leader, Prof. Dr. Kadek Suranata, stated in Singaraja, Bali, on Monday, that the project involves the Guidance and Counselling Teachers Association (MGBK) and the Regional Board of the Indonesian Guidance and Counselling Association (PD ABKIN) Bali, with support from several government agencies in Denpasar and Buleleng.
Suranata noted that the development of SI-Konseling Pro is part of an effort to bring university research results closer to the real needs of schools. According to him, the technology is not intended to replace the role of guidance and counselling (BK) teachers, but rather to serve as a tool for conducting more measurable student screening and assistance.
SI-Konseling Pro is equipped with several features, including the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21) assessment, online counselling consultations, structured and anonymous reporting of violence cases, and EEG analysis as supporting data in the pre-counselling process. EEG data is then displayed via a dashboard to provide additional information regarding student concentration indicators and emotional regulation.
In its development, the team has also integrated the values of Tri Kaya Parisudha, which emphasises the harmony of thoughts (manacika), words (wacika), and actions (kayika). These values are combined with a counselling approach to help students build more positive and harmonious mindsets, communication, and behaviour.
Suranata explained that the integration of local wisdom is a key characteristic of SI-Konseling Pro, as the modern technology used is adapted to the social and cultural context of Balinese society.
The innovation has undergone testing in several partner schools in Denpasar and Singaraja. The team collected baseline DASS-21 data from 400 students across eight schools and conducted pre-post tests on 65 students.
“The hope is that SI-Konseling Pro does not stop as a prototype, but can continue to be developed into a solution that provides real benefits for schools, particularly in strengthening counselling services and creating a safe educational environment for students,” he continued.
Through this development, Undiksha lecturers aim to encourage research downstreaming so that it produces not only academic knowledge but also innovations that can be applied to address educational issues. The combination of EEG and AI technology with the local wisdom of Tri Kaya Parisudha is expected to provide a counselling service that is modern, humanist, and appropriate for the educational context in Bali.
