Undeterred by Holidays, Gus Ipul Inspects Preparations for People's School at LAN
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) continued his series of site inspections for preparations to implement the Sekolah Rakyat today. This time, he visited the premises of the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN).
This visit is part of efforts to ensure the readiness of facilities and infrastructure, following a previous inspection of STIP on the same day. Gus Ipul, accompanied by his team, directly examined the condition of the buildings, which consist of several blocks such as Blocks A, B, and K, each with different characteristics.
Several rooms are known to have been used for basic training, while others have the potential to be repurposed as learning spaces and dormitories for Sekolah Rakyat students. From the briefing, the current dormitory capacity is estimated to accommodate around 120 people.
However, adjustments are still needed as they are deemed not yet optimal in terms of room size and comfort. In addition, supporting facilities such as a dining area capable of serving more than 100 people, sports areas, and open spaces were also part of the evaluation.
LAN Head Muhammad Taufiq expressed his agency’s readiness to support the Sekolah Rakyat programme through the optimisation of its assets.
“This is one of the very strategic locations. In principle, the existing facilities can be utilised and adjusted, including through renovations to meet the needs of the school’s implementation,” said Taufiq in his statement on Sunday (19/4/2026).
In the discussion, the need to reorganise several areas currently occupied was also addressed. The approach will prioritise humane solutions, including possible relocations with support for basic needs.
In response, Gus Ipul emphasised the importance of a fair and solution-oriented approach.
“If adjustments or relocations are indeed necessary, we ensure they are carried out humanely. This can include temporary support, both for housing and basic needs, until they are truly ready to be independent,” said Gus Ipul.
He added that the government is not only focused on physical development but also ensures the sustainability of the lives of affected communities.
“The principle is that we help each other, finding the best way out so that all parties get a solution,” he added.
Furthermore, synergy with the Ministry of Public Works is key to ensuring infrastructure readiness, including possible renovations or additional constructions to increase capacity and the feasibility of facilities. This cross-sectoral collaboration is expected to accelerate the realisation of Sekolah Rakyat.
