Undeterred, BSI Explore Team Reaches Difficult Access to Prepare Mangrove Planting at Pantai Bahagia
In addition to working in the field of education, students from Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) who are part of BSI Explore 2026 have prepared a programme aimed at environmental conservation in Pantai Bahagia Village.
One of these initiatives is mangrove planting, scheduled to take place on Saturday (22/8/2026), along with the creation of an information board titled Mangrovepedia to be placed in the lutung conservation area at Muara Bendera.
However, to carry out this programme, the students must contend directly with the geographical conditions of Pantai Bahagia.
The conservation area designated as the programme site can only be reached by boat, while the students’ mobility within the village is also limited because no team member has a motorcycle.
This situation means daily activities must be done on foot. To meet their food needs, the UBSI students have to walk approximately one kilometre to shop, and building materials must be transported using a sled.
“The obstacle is perhaps transportation. For the mangrove planting as well, we have to walk quite a distance of more than two kilometres,” said Muhammad Dhafi Sukandar, Head of Group 13 of BSI Explore Desa 2026 in Pantai Bahagia Village, on Friday (21/8/2026).
He added that the network coverage there is also quite difficult. There is only coverage from one provider, while others have none. Despite facing limited access, Dhafi and his team continue to strive to carry out the programme they have designed.
According to him, these conditions have instead become part of the UBSI students’ experience in understanding the lives of the Pantai Bahagia Village community more closely.
The environmental programme prepared by the students does not stop at mangrove planting. The team will install the Mangrovepedia information board in the lutung conservation area of Muara Bendera as an educational medium about the mangrove ecosystem and the surrounding environment.
For the UBSI students, the geographical limitations of Pantai Bahagia Village are not merely a technical obstacle. The journey to the activity site becomes an experience to see first-hand how the community goes about their daily lives with limited transportation and communication access.
“Because on the other hand, no one has a motorcycle. We have to walk everywhere,” said Dhafi.
This experience gives the BSI Explore 2026 programme a broader dimension. The UBSI students do not only come to carry out a community service programme, but also to learn and understand the conditions of the community and the environment where they serve.
In Pantai Bahagia, a journey of more than two kilometres to the mangrove planting site becomes part of the story of service. A reminder that to provide benefits to the community, sometimes the first step must indeed begin with walking further.
