Understanding Independence

To mark Independence Day, Teater Utan Kayu here will host a photo exhibition titled Understanding Independence on Aug. 19, 2005.

The exhibition will feature photographs from Ipphos (Indonesia Press Photo Service), Dutch photographer Cas Oorthuys and six young Indonesian and Dutch photographers.

The photographs will depict Indonesian independence from the perspectives of both Indonesian and Dutch people.

The younger photographers taking part in the exhibition will display photographs highlighting the situation in Indonesia today -- 60 years after independence.

The curators of the exhibition are Alex Supartono and Astrid Hermes.
