Understanding Aceh's misfortune

The recent giant quake and the largest tsunami in history have
caused human tragedy in Aceh, with a rising death toll, loss of
wealth and devastation of resources.

We all should understand that the misfortune is not a
punishment by God as some people may have us believe. Unlike in
the times of earlier prophets, followers of Prophet Muhammad who
are sinful will be punished in the life hereafter.

This misfortune is a natural phenomenon determined by God and
may at the same time be a trial for the Acehnese.

Therefore, all victims of the calamity in Aceh should be
patient and be resigned to what has been destined by God.
