Undersea Torpedo Sinks Iranian Warship

An American submarine sank an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean. Dozens were killed as a result of the undersea torpedo attack. ‘The ship felt safe in international waters, but was struck by a torpedo,’ United States Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth said, quoted by BBC Indonesia on Thursday 5 March 2026. Hegseth did not name the Iranian warship that was attacked. However, earlier the Sri Lankan Navy reported that the Iranian warship IRIS Dena sank in the Indian Ocean, with around 140 people aboard recorded as missing. ‘This is not a fair fight, and it is not intended to be a fair fight,’ Hegseth added. ‘A bigger wave is coming. We have only just begun.’
