Underground Pedestrian Tunnel at Bundaran HI Targeted for Completion by June 2027
The underground tunnel project connecting buildings in the Bundaran HI area of Central Jakarta is still underway. MRT Jakarta reports the project has reached approximately 22 percent completion and is targeted for completion by June 2027.
"Regarding the construction of the underground pedestrian walkway, the current progress is around 22 percent, and we have a target to finish by June 2027, exactly five centuries of Jakarta," said MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (29/7/2026).
The underground tunnel is being built to facilitate pedestrian movement in the Bundaran HI area. The route will connect four buildings around Bundaran HI and link to the MRT Station.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that ease of access for public transport users is a key focus for the Jakarta Provincial Government. He noted that the pedestrian walkway at Dukuh Atas has also commenced.
"And at the same time, the Dukuh Atas pedestrian deck has now been started. Hopefully, this will significantly improve connectivity in Jakarta," Pramono said.
