Under Pressure to Resign as PPP Secretary-General, Gus Yasin: It's Just Social Media Talk
Secretary-General of the United Development Party (PPP) Taj Yasin has responded to the emerging calls for him to step down from his position as PPP Secretary-General. According to him, there has been no discussion within PPP about the matter to date.
Yasin stated that the calls for him to resign as PPP Secretary-General are merely discourse circulating on social media. “That’s just social media talk, isn’t it? There hasn’t been any internal party discussion yet. We’ll just wait and see what the party decides. So far, there hasn’t been any discussion on that,” Yasin said when interviewed in Semarang and asked for his response to the calls for his resignation as PPP Secretary-General on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Although he currently serves as Deputy Governor of Central Java, Yasin claims to remain professional in carrying out his party duties, including attempting to resolve internal disputes. “I think we’re also professional. We’re handling it; there are still issues in the provincial branches of PPP, so they do need to be resolved internally,” he said.
The calls for Yasin to resign from his position as PPP Secretary-General surfaced during the National Coordination Meeting (Rakor) I of PPP, attended by regional leadership boards from across Indonesia. In the online meeting held on 16 April 2026, several PPP provincial leaders urged Yasin to step down.
Chairman of the PPP Jakarta Provincial Board, Saiful Rahmat Dasuki, was one of those who criticised Yasin. He opined that since the new leadership was approved by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Yasin has not carried out his duties properly.
Saiful also accused Yasin of engaging in unconstitutional actions through various manoeuvres deemed to obstruct organisational work. “According to the party’s Articles of Association and Bylaws, the Secretary-General has the function of implementing organisational governance. But what happened was the opposite. This is a form of resistance against the organisation, so firm action is needed immediately, including replacement,” he said when interviewed in Jakarta on 17 April 2026.
Chairwoman of the PPP Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Board, Rachmawati Badallah, stated that her side, along with several cadres in the regions, is preparing legal steps in the form of a civil lawsuit against Taj Yasin and Agus Suparmanto. Agus is a figure who was once involved in a mutual claim for the general chairman position by acclamation with Mardiono.
Rachmawati accused Yasin and Agus of being the masterminds behind the party’s stalled machinery amid crucial political momentum. According to her, the lawsuit process is still being refined by the legal team representing PPP provincial boards across Indonesia.
“The lawsuit will be filed soon. This is not a spontaneous step, but one that has been thoroughly discussed with all regional representatives,” said Rachmawati.
