Under Police Investigation, OJK Reveals Fraud Scheme Involving Watching Chinese Dramas

The Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas PASTI) has revealed that a financial fraud scheme involving watching Chinese dramas has entered the investigation stage by law enforcement officials. Previously, in May 2026, Satgas PASTI had stopped the activities of five entities suspected of conducting fraud and illegal investments, namely CANTVR, YUDIA, Appeninc, VID, and Sensenowai. Hudiyanto from the Satgas PASTI Secretariat stated that the case is currently being handled by a regional police force (Polda) in Indonesia. However, the number of victims and the total losses incurred are still being calculated by the authorities. “It is already under investigation at one of the regional poldas. But an investigation has been initiated by one of the regional poldas,” Hudiyanto revealed during an OJK Journalist Class in South Tangerang on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Hudiyanto explained that the perpetrators offered part-time work to the public linked to the activity of watching Chinese dramas. Additionally, victims were offered a copyright purchase scheme that was claimed to provide bonuses and certain profits in the future. The public was promised additional income from the ownership of these copyrights. Profits were said to be given based on the number of views the content received after participants purchased the rights. Satgas PASTI reminded the public to be wary of offers promising easy profits simply from watching digital content. The public is also urged to be cautious if asked to deposit funds under the lure of earning passive income from such activities. “If it’s just depositing money to watch, that’s one thing. But when there is additional income to be gained, as if we are buying the copyright and then getting profits based on how many times it is aired, be careful of such schemes,” Hudiyanto said. He added that the scheme often exploits the public’s interest in popular entertainment content to attract victims. Therefore, the public is asked to be more critical of investment or job offers that promise unreasonable profits without clear risks.
