Under Mojtaba's Leadership, Iran Immediately Launches Missiles at Israel
Following the appointment of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran has immediately fired its first missile salvo towards Israel. The initial wave of missiles under Mojtaba’s leadership was directly aimed at occupied territories.
According to detikNews citing the AFP news agency on Monday 9 March 2026, Iran’s state television station IRIB stated that Iran launched the first wave of missiles at Israel following the appointment of Ali Khamenei’s son.
“Iran has launched the first wave of missiles under the leadership of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei towards occupied territories,” IRIB said in its Telegram channel.
The Telegram account posted an image of a projectile bearing the slogan “At Your Command, Sayyid Mojtaba”. The specific cities targeted by the missiles have not yet been disclosed.
For context, the Assembly of Experts formally appointed Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader. Mojtaba was previously cited as the leading candidate to succeed Ali Khamenei.
Meanwhile, Israel has stressed that it continues to monitor the successor to Ali Khamenei’s regime. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated that his country’s military would kill any Iranian leader appointed to replace the late Ali Khamenei.
“Any leader appointed by the Iranian regime to continue implementing the plan to destroy Israel, threatening the United States and the free world and nations in the region, and oppressing the Iranian people, will be a clear target for elimination,” Katz said in his statement, as reported by Al Jazeera on Wednesday 4 March.
“Regardless of who he is or where he is hiding,” he added.
