Undana Medical Alumni Urge Police to Thoroughly Investigate Death of Dr Icha

Kupang (ANTARA) - The alumni association of the Faculty of Medicine, Nusa Cendana University (Undana) Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, is urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as Dr Icha, which is suspected to have resulted from intimidation by members of the North Central Timor Regency DPRD. “We request that the National Police Chief form a special, yet independent, team to handle this case and to disclose the investigation results openly to the public,” said alumni representative Dr Bilberton during a press conference at the Dean’s Building of the Faculty of Medicine, Undana, Kupang, on Tuesday. According to him, several events occurred prior to Dr Icha’s death, and therefore the police are asked to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the case. The police are also urged to question the three members of the North Central Timor Regency DPRD who allegedly intimidated Dr Icha, causing her distress and leading to her suicide. “We also request that the police examine the three individuals to uncover this case,” he stated. He also called on the public in East Nusa Tenggara, including the mass media, to monitor this case to ensure transparency. Meanwhile, another Undana medical alumni, Dr Eky Gonang, added that parties suspected of having knowledge or involvement in the case should also be summoned and examined, regardless of their position. The alumni group declared they will not remain silent if there are attempts to cover up the case of Dr Icha’s death, which is believed to be a result of alleged intimidation by members of the North Central Timor DPRD. Furthermore, they urged the DPRD’s Ethics Council to investigate the alleged ethical violations committed by the three councillors for intimidating Dr Icha while she was on duty. They also called on the respective political party leaders to immediately dismiss the three DPRD members if they are found guilty. The press conference was also attended by officials from the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) of East Nusa Tenggara and representatives from the Indonesian General Practitioners Association (PDUI).
