Undana Denies Student's 12-Time Thesis Exam Cancellation, Calls It Hoax
Nusa Cendana University (Undana) has denied reports that a student from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM), Jessica Sofia Tunardjo, had her thesis exam cancelled 12 times. Vice Rector IV of Undana, Philiphi de Rozari, even stated that the report was false information, or a hoax.
“The issue of the 12-time cancellation of the thesis exam is not true. What happened was an adjustment to the schedule for the proposal seminar and results seminar, not the thesis exam,” said Philiphi in Kupang on Wednesday (5/8/2026).
Despite labelling the report a hoax, Philiphi stressed that Undana would not pursue legal action. He only hoped the public would not easily believe unverified information so that the academic process and the student’s recovery could proceed smoothly.
“The post is untrue and a hoax; it was not posted by our student. We will not take legal action because they are also our brothers and sisters,” Philiphi explained.
Philiphi explained that delays in the final assignment stages are normal in the academic system. The process involves supervisors, examiners, and the student.
“The scheduling involves supervisors, examiners, and the student. Sometimes the examiner is unavailable, sometimes the supervisor is unavailable, and even the student may be unable to attend due to health conditions. So this is an accumulation of various factors, not solely the fault of one party,” Philiphi explained.
The professor said that communication between students and lecturers has been going very well. Philiphi claimed that almost all questions from students are always answered well by the examiners.
Denies Depression
In addition to the report of the 12-time thesis exam cancellation, Philiphi also denied that Jessica was suffering from depression. According to him, based on examination results, Jessica was not experiencing depression.
“Based on the examination results, our student is not experiencing depression; the person concerned is experiencing fatigue and anxiety that has affected her physical condition,” Philiphi stressed.
Philiphi confirmed that Jessica has returned home and is in a recovery period. He hoped that Jessica’s recovery would go well so that she could continue her studies and achieve her goals.
