Undana Denies Student Depression and 12-Time Thesis Cancellation Claims

Nusa Cendana University (Undana) in Kupang has denied claims that student Jessica Sofia Tunardjo was suffering from depression after her thesis examination was allegedly cancelled 12 times. Vice Rector IV Philiphi de Rozari stated that based on a medical examination, the student was not depressed but was suffering from fatigue and anxiety. He also dismissed the narrative of 12 cancellations as a hoax, explaining that the adjustments were for seminar proposals and results, and involved scheduling conflicts between the student, supervisors, and examiners. Philiphi confirmed that the student has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home. He expressed hope that the public would not easily believe unverified information, while confirming the university would not pursue legal action over the viral posts. East Nusa Tenggara Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma, who visited the student in hospital, said her condition was improving and called for the education process to prioritise human values, ensuring students learn in a safe and comfortable environment. The hospital director noted the student was initially admitted with complaints of vertigo and nausea, but her condition stabilised. The university emphasised that communication between the student and lecturers had been good throughout the process.
