Uncle Suspected of Toddler Murder in Bekasi Attempted Suicide Multiple Times
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com - SG (18), the uncle suspected of killing a two-year-old boy with initials MAJ at a rental house in RT 02/RW 10, Jatirangga, Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, reportedly attempted suicide multiple times.
Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Bekasi City Metropolitan Police, stated that preliminary investigations revealed SG has a history of mental illness and had previously undergone psychiatric treatment.
“The suspect has threatened to commit suicide multiple times. This has been done several times, likely due to mental health issues,” Iqbal said during an interview at Bekasi City Metropolitan Police headquarters on Thursday (28/5/2026).
“On the day of the incident, the suspect ran out of medication. He had not taken his medication for two days due to financial constraints,” Iqbal said.
Police suspect SG’s involvement in the murder of MAJ, who was found dead in the rental house’s living room with multiple stab and slash wounds.
“After interrogation and deeper investigation, the current findings point to the suspect, SG, who is still alive and receiving hospital treatment,” Iqbal said.
During the investigation, police have interviewed eight to ten witnesses. Investigators have also secured evidence including the victim’s clothing, two kitchen knives, and CCTV footage from the area.
Iqbal stated that the police are still investigating the motive and conducting a thorough probe into the incident that killed MAJ.
MAJ’s body has been taken to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for autopsy, while SG remains under intensive care at Jatisampurna Regional Hospital due to his injuries.
Previously reported, MAJ was found dead by his grandmother, M (60), who had just returned from selling cakes around 10 PM.
RT 02 Jatirangga Head Taufik Hidayat said the victim lived with his grandmother and uncle in the rental house, while his mother resides in Yogyakarta.
“His grandmother only discovered the situation upon returning home at 10 PM. The body was found lying in a pool of blood on the living room floor of the rental house,” Taufik said at the scene.
According to Taufik, residents heard cries and screams from inside the rental house after both victims were discovered.
