SG (18), the uncle suspected of killing two-year-old MAJ at a rental house in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, has been diagnosed with a mental disorder. The suspected perpetrator had not taken his sedative medication for two days prior to the murder, according Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, spokesperson for Bekasi City Metro Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit. ‘On the day of the incident, the suspect ran out of medication. He had not taken his medication for two days due to financial constraints,’ Iqbal stated during a press briefing at the police headquarters on Thursday (28 May 2026). ‘Upon reviewing his records, he had previously been under psychiatric care and has a mild mental disorder,’ he added.

Iqbal highlighted that the family’s financial difficulties have hindered the suspect’s ongoing treatment. The victim’s grandmother, identified as M (60), is the primary earner, working odd jobs to support the household. ‘The grandmother is the sole provider, as the child’s mother has never provided financial support due to economic hardship,’ Iqbal explained.

Police believe SG was involved in the murder of his nephew MAJ, whose body was found in the rental’s living room. ‘Currently, the investigation points to the surviving suspect, SG, who is receiving medical treatment,’ Iqbal said. The toddler was found with multiple stab wounds and lacerations, including facial and inguinal cuts, described as ‘particularly brutal’.

Meanwhile, SG was found with facial, oral, and chest injuries at the scene, along with several scratches on his body, according to Iqbal.
