Uncle in Bekasi Claims He Heard Voices and Wanted to Meet God Before Killing Nephew
BEKASI — Police revealed that SG (18) admitted to hearing voices before killing his two-year-old nephew, MAJ, at a rented house in the Omah Seruni 99 area, Jatirangga, Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, West Java, on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
‘Besides being angry, the suspect also claimed to have heard voices and wanted to meet God quickly,’ said Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, the head of the Bekasi City Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, during an interview at the police station on Friday, 29 May 2026.
According to Iqbal, after becoming enraged, SG took a knife from the kitchen and attacked the victim.
‘In total, there were approximately 32 stab wounds to the victim’s body,’ Iqbal stated.
Police also noted that SG had previously expressed suicidal intentions multiple times.
‘From the suspect’s sibling’s statement, he had attempted to express his desire to end his life around 10 times,’ Iqbal said.
He added that these intentions were likely linked to SG’s health condition. Family members reported that SG has a history of mental illness and regularly takes psychiatric medication. However, on the day of the incident, he had not taken his medication for two days.
‘He was stressed. He also has epilepsy. So he was stressed about his condition,’ Iqbal explained.
SG admitted to the crime during police questioning, even apologising to his nephew.
‘Despite some inconsistencies in his statements, the suspect confessed to his actions,’ Iqbal said.
Police formally charged SG after a case review and once his medical condition improved following treatment.
He faces charges under Article 80(3) of Law No. 35 of 2014 on Child Protection, alternatively Article 458 of the Indonesian Penal Code under Law No. 1 of 2023.
