Uncertain Global Conditions: Purbaya Says Our Defences Are Layered, No Need to Fear!
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that although the current global situation is uncertain, the public need not panic. He assured that the country’s fiscal condition and state revenues are still safe, sufficient to support subsidy policies and fuel price stabilisations. This is evident from one of the buffers, where the government still holds a Budget Surplus Balance (SAL) of Rp 420 trillion. “So that shows we still have layered defences. So friends, no need to fear,” said Purbaya during a conversation with the media in the Ministry of Finance area, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 7 April 2026. He added that from the outside, he might appear ordinary, even tending towards relaxed, often laughing. However, the Ministry of Finance is always calculating state finances in detail, as well as potential expenditures aligned with the government’s efforts in budget efficiency. “Because I ensure that the money is there. Some people might think I’m relaxed in appearance, laughing, but actually it’s calculated,” said Purbaya. Moreover, the government acknowledged conducting frequent simulations regarding global oil prices, while calculating possible subsidy amounts and the government’s financial capacity. Several aspects, such as state revenues and increases in income from various sectors like the energy and mineral resources sector, are not overlooked in the government’s calculations. “We also always simulate the oil price (global). We haven’t calculated yet from other revenue sources, increases in revenue from policies by Mr Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Bahlil, and so on,” he stated.
