Unceasing Diplomatic Steps by Indonesia's Ambassador to Malaysia
Unceasing diplomacy conducted by Indonesia’s Ambassador to Malaysia certainly marks an excellent beginning in efforts to maintain and safeguard national interests. Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Over the past two months, the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has not only served as the administrative hub for the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) but also as a stage for non-stop diplomacy aimed at protecting Indonesian citizens and enhancing relations between the two countries. The unceasing diplomacy in question refers to the “diplomatic marathon” efforts undertaken by Indonesia’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Dato’ Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo. Ambassador Iman has conducted this diplomacy by meeting with various parties, ranging from ambassadors of friendly nations posted in Malaysia to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and members of his cabinet. The objective is none other than to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as with other countries, and of course, to protect Indonesian citizens in Malaysia. Diplomatic Corps Visits As part of his assignment as Indonesia’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Ambassador Iman has made courtesy visits to several members of the Diplomatic Corps, including Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Malaysia, particularly those from ASEAN. Such visits are customary at the start of an ambassador’s tenure, as a step for introductions and to consolidate inter-country relations. The visits began with a meeting with Singapore’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon. In that meeting, Ambassador Iman was warmly welcomed by High Commissioner Vanu Gopala Menon. The two expressed hopes for future cooperation and collaboration in all mutually beneficial aspects for both countries. Ambassador Iman then also made a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Philippines in Kuala Lumpur, where he was received directly by the Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, Maria Angela Abrera Ponce. During the meeting, the Indonesian and Philippine Ambassadors exchanged views on various issues, including sharing best practices in protecting migrant workers. Ambassador Iman expressed interest in learning about the skill enhancement workshop programme organised by the Philippine Embassy, while Ambassador Maria expressed interest in the initiatives of the Community Learning Activity Centre (PKBM) or Community Learning Center (CLC) run by the KBRI Kuala Lumpur to provide education for Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. Iman Hascarya Kusumo then also met with Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Lisualdo Menezes Coimbra Gaspar, and emphasised the close relations between Indonesia and Timor-Leste at the highest levels down to government institutions. Ambassador Iman conveyed the ongoing potential to develop cooperation between the two countries in Malaysia, particularly in the health industry sector. Both ambassadors expressed optimism about the future direction of bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.
