Unattended Bag Found at Denpasar's Niti Mandala Field Causes Alarm

An unattended bag was found in the bushes at Lapangan Puputan Margarana Niti Mandala, near the Bajra Sandhi Monument of the Balinese People’s Struggle, in Denpasar on Saturday (11/7/2026). The bag was cream-coloured with a batik motif. A resident who was exercising in the area initially spotted the bag lying under the shrubs and immediately reported the discovery. “Feeling suspicious, the resident promptly reported the finding to security personnel at the Bajra Sandhi area,” said East Denpasar Police Chief AKP I Gusti Ngurah Agung Udiana in a written statement on Saturday. Security officers from the Bajra Sandhi monument checked the bag at the location together with the reporter. The security team then reported the discovery to the community policing officer of the East Denpasar Police. A Small Complete Unit from the East Denpasar Police, led by supervisory officer Ipda I Wayan Yasa, immediately inspected the condition of the bag. The examination was carried out carefully in accordance with procedures. When opened, the bag was found to contain only clothing and eating utensils. No potentially hazardous items were discovered. “The inspection found no dangerous objects or items that could threaten public safety,” Udiana added. Udiana urged the public not to touch suspicious objects found in public places. He also asked people not to panic if they encounter such items and to report them to security authorities or the police. It is worth noting that Balinese residents often feel anxious when discovering ownerless objects such as suitcases, bags, and the like. This is believed to stem from lingering trauma following the Bali bomb attacks several years ago.
